Catching Up: Zoey’s Birthday Party, Part Two

Standard

Like last year, we had Zoey’s birthday party this year at Greg’s dad and stepmom’s house on Little York Lake so people could swim if they were so inclined. You know, mermaid/under-the-sea party theme…it just sort of works better next to water. The only problem was that for about a week before the party, the weatherman had been predicting a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain in the afternoon—smack dab in the middle of Zoey’s party.

Needless to say, I was a nervous nelly about the weather for a good week or so. Sure, if it had rained, we could have had the party inside, but I knew Zoey was looking forward to swimming and I had told all of her cousins to bring their swimsuits And OMG IT BETTER NOT RAIN.

Catching Up: Zoey’s Birthday Party, Part One

Standard

Remember how I said in my last post that I have a lot of catching up to do to make up for the time I was sick during the first part of my pregnancy? Well, hopefully, this will post with be the start of that. Let’s talk preparations for Zoey’s third birthday party.

She had told me a couple of months before her birthday that she wanted to have a mermaid-themed birthday party. And at first, I really wasn’t planning on going all crazy with the decorations and stuff. I thought that I’d just browse online to see what kind of mermaid decorations were out there and maybe take a little look-see at pinterest.com. Nothing huge.

But somewhere along the way (I sort of blame it on pinterest.com), I kind of went a little crazy. I’ll admit it; I went loopy and decided that I was going to do all kinds of crafty craziness. Thankfully (sort of), I ran out of time for some of the ideas I had, but I was still able to make a rockin’ mermaid party.

Zoey Moments #37 and #38 (Sort Of)

Standard

File this under ‘Out of the Mouths of Babes’:

Last week, after I had picked Zoey up from my mom’s house, I pulled the Mommy Mobile into our driveway and Zoey and I spotted Brutus (our black lab) laying on our porch. Naturally, as soon as Brutus eyed my truck, he started barking like crazy.

This is what I heard from the backseat: “There’s Brutus barking like an ass. He’s so silly.”

My jaw dropped.

Our Day (OMG)

Standard

Our day:

We went to swimming lessons, which consisted of Zoey screaming the entire time that she wanted to jump off the side of the pool into Greg’s waiting arms. And then for the last five minutes, when it was free time, she actually got to do the jumping which put a smile on her face for the first time in the who thirty-minute class (btw super-huge props to her teachers Emily and Eliza for trying to help Greg and I get her interested in actually being a part of the class. And super-super huge props to Emily for listening to me say, “I’m sorry. I don’t know what’s up with her today,” and saying with a shrug, “That’s okay. We all have an off day.” Greg and I really wish she was available to babysit because she is AWESOME).

Then we went to MacDonalds where even though Aunt Kim made a surprise visit (which was really cool, btw, and made Zoey’s day), Zoey still managed to smear a bunch of her barbecue sauce on my sweater sleeve.

When we got home, I insisted on Zoey taking a nap. I shouldn’t have. Girlfriend went crazy when she woke up. Observe:

Zoey Moment #36

Standard

The other night, Zoey was having a hard time sleeping, so she ended up in our bed between Greg and I.

Typically, when I carry her into our room in the middle of the night, I always lay her down on one side of my pillow–so that I can lay down on the other side of the pillow. So we can SHARE it, right? But she ALWAYS moves over so that she’s in the middle of the pillow–and I’m always left with only a few inches of pillow and bed space.

Same thing happened the other night. I laid her down and while I was trying to wrestle the blanket out from underneath Scout (who insists on sleeping on our bed every night), Zoey moved over to the middle of the pillow. So, when I laid down, I gently moved her back to the side of the pillow.

Her response?

“Heh. You have big butt.”

At 3:30 in the morning, my daughter decided to inform me of this. Across the bed, I heard Greg snicker.

Happy Birthday To Us!

Standard

Two years ago, I took a chance and started blogging. Two years ago, I started writing about our experiences as first-time parents to a beautiful baby girl and the chaos of living with two cats and two dogs. Two years went by really, really fast (read: stop growing up, Zoey Grace).

So, what did we do this past weekend, our birthday weekend? Greg and I took Zoey to family swim at the YWCA, we watched Zoey’s new favorite show, Wipeout, I crocheted a bit and we all took a nap–you know, a typical Saturday and Sunday. It was partly because I forgot this was our birthday weekend, but also because I think the best way to celebrate something like this is spending time with the awesome people who make up this blog and make me a better person.

I love you, Gregory James and Zoey Grace–my two favorite people in the whole world. Thank you for encouraging me and helping me to create memories and, therefore, stories for this here dog-and-pony-show blog.

And thanks to all of the readers, who have hung in there and supported us with comments, likes and follows. We hope you stick around and enjoy our adventures.
