Hi Baby Girl. Being that you’re still pretty new to the world (turning one whole year old in two weeks, gah!), I understand that maybe you’re confused about a few things. I mean, every day you’re exploring and learning new stuff. Mommy just wants to help guide you on your journey and so, I made this list to help you out:
-It is totally fine to have a sippee cup of milkies with your dinner (as opposed to after you’re done eating like you usually do). If you want to start having your sippee cup with your meal, you can have it. However, it is NOT okay to take big gulps of milkies only to let it gush out of your mouth so you can watch a white waterfall slide down your bib onto your tray.
-It is totally fine to want to share your food with those less fortunate; that shows a caring spirit that I’m proud of. However, Scout and Brutus are NOT considered less fortunate (no matter what sad puppy faces they make) and you do NOT need to feed them your cheerios or lo mein.
-It is totally fine to question authority in an effort to find your place in the world. However, it is NOT okay to laugh at Mommy when she scolds you for blowing raspberries when you’re eating, which results in spaghetti sauce going everywhere.
-It is totally fine to explore your surroundings; that’s part of the learning process. However, it is NOT okay to throw Mommy’s scrapbooking inspiration pages all over the floor, pull tissues out of their box or constantly reach for the stupid Clorox wipes container.
-It is totally fine to be interested in electronics because our world is so full of them these days. However, it is NOT okay to unlock Mommy’s cell phone, somehow get into her contacts list and call Grandma Hoose’s cell phone. Also, it is NOT okay to unlock Daddy’s cell phone and attempt to call Uncle Vince. It’s very disconcerting for Mommy to be talking to Daddy in the living room and all of a sudden hear Grandma Hoose’s voice saying, “Hello? Hello?” And Uncle Vince was wondering if Daddy wanted something and called him right back to make sure everything was okay.
-It is totally fine to be fascinated by the power of your new teeth. However, it is NOT okay to bite relative’s shoulders, Daddy’s chest or Mommy’s leg. Also, it helps to release the spoon when people are trying to feed you–as opposed to biting down on it and not letting go.
-It is totally fine to want to try new foods. Daddy and I are excited at the fact that you don’t seem to have a tricky palate and are willing at such a young age to eat anything. However, it is NOT okay to put dog treats you find at Grandma Hoose’s house in your mouth. Ditto with sneaking them home in your toy bag to try at home. Dog treats are for dogs. Not people.
-It is totally fine to want to be on-the-go every second of the day. I applaud your go get’em attitude. However, when Mommy is trying to change your diaper, it is NOT okay to wiggle away from Mommy’s grasp and start crawling across the living room in all your bare butt glory.
Also, you cannot fly, so it would be awesome if you’d stop trying to throw yourself off the couch.
I hope this list helps you and makes you feel a little more confidant as you discover the world around you. We love to watch you grow and discover (even if you keep us on our toes at all times now that you’re mobile).
Love you more than the moon, the stars and all the fish in the sea,
